right, well, where to start. I picked up a rs turbo escort van few months back but hated it, drove horrible a rattled, just nasty, so hunting for another bonus to do i couldnt find 1, my mate from clactons rings me, "mate got the perfect car for your next project, get down sharpish" so off to clacton and there it is, a mk4 1.4l 5 dr estate in galaxy blue.......... fooking awsome i thought!!!

so £100 later she was delivered the next day

so she sat for a week then someone tried to nick it lol, so i thought time to do it, next day spent 6 hours with auto glym paint renovator and super resin polish cleaning her up by hand

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/mk1trb/10.jpg
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/mk1trb/9.jpg

next day new number plate and she went straight through the mot, awsome considering she'd been sat i a garden for a year then straight into the garage and stripped down for new power plant

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/mk1trb/27.jpg
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/mk1trb/29.jpg

new plant in place with pace alloy rad and grs huge front mount, stage 2 turbo organic clutch and full magnex system, time for suspension, nice new 40mm springs
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/mk1trb/26.jpg
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/mk1trb/24.jpg

had to run it on the carb tank to begin with which was dodgy but after a fuel pump relay issue she fired up first click. Back down on rs2k 15's and time for a test run, took her to cromer and back without a fault. Gto bored of exhaust so got a mongoose 4" back box but was far too loud at 70mph(told you im old), took some piccies of she was say 10 days after i bought her

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/mk1trb/17.jpg

so happy motoring for a month then a water pipe split and she over heated and cracked the head, quick trip to colchester to another mate and new head complete with piper 285 t2 cam for £20 notes, awsome!!!! So new head and felpro head gasket later and a power engineering unlimited boost chip and a paddle clutch as the organic had **** itself she was upseting scooby wrx's and pulsar's lol.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/mk1trb/36.jpg

Got a new rs turbo tank and a set of rs turbo brakes

so running well set boost at 18psi and borrowed afr gauge says she happy at that, when i get it set up prop next week i'll go for 22psi :reddevil:

anyway i missed having recaro's so went back to me mate in clacton and got 90 spec front and rears for £60, a set of clear indicators and side repeaters chucked in, also bought a slim starter motor and a set of rs turbo clocks as the l specs dont have a rev counter lol, got all that lot in last night

That is awesome mate, keep up the goodwork.
Wish i could be running 22psi in my car. Think the pistons would only last for about 30 secs though so better stick to 13.

What revs does the turbo come in at. Must be a fair kick when it does.

what you got then fella??? thats what i love about the old mfi, unlimited boost chip, set the fueling and you can run what you like with the right intercooler. The standard bottom end of a rs turbo can take 250-300bhp with arp rod bolts and religious servicing. i'll never run it to that, im going fire breathing 2.1 zvh eventually with some stage 3 cossie managment for 280bhp

does go well, well in the dry lol, i like chasing down and killing scoobies and pulsars at the moment

start to spool at 2650rpm, boost spike is @3000rpm, grip that steering wheel tight and all hell breaks loose lol

best thing would be ebay mate, often pop up on there cheap standard but modded ones sell for silly money, my old purple unfinished project sold for £750 with no mot but was turbo converted

Ive got a rover coupe turbo mate. Its running just over 240bhp. Want more from it but the next step is forging it as the pistons are basically at their limit now. Dont know if i can justify spending the money on forging it though.

if its a pre 96 model you dont need too, stick some good arp rod bolts in there and go aftermarket managment, with the right managment those bottom ends will take 350bhp

I thought it was the m series ones that could take that much power not just all of the older ones? Yeah the managment on them is a bit crap as you cant remap it. Aftermarket managemant isnt that cheap either. Cant decide if i want to spend that much money on it really.

m series and o series and early t series all have forged pistons, the later t series dont, managment could come from anywhere but it depends what you want from the car, you could go for gotech/omex/megasquirt tho i think this is ****e/cosworth managment even/pectel, they are mostly exspensive but you can pick up some bargains, what is the most exspensive bit is mapping, this normally starts at £300 all the way up to £1k. Some people will say its a rover and you'll never make your money back and it isnt worth it but thats not what its about, its the fun of whooping scoobies/evos and cossies in a £1000 Rover lol, and you can break it up at the end to get some money back, especially if you keep all the original stuff, just put it back to standard sell the car then all the extra goodies.

daniels
14-11-09, 05:47 PM
Yeah upsetting the likes of scoobys is always fun and shutting people up when they say its a crappy rover is always good. I hear alot of that so just have to laugh. I would go the whole hog and go for over 400bhp but dont want to spend that much on a car at the mo. Think i will get it running a bit better for now and sort the brakes out. Maybe a few tweeks to get it upto 250bhp and leave it for a little while. probably keep me satisfied for all of a week

Boost comes in fairly low on yours then, mine comes in just before 3000 and peaks at about 3200 with a pulsar t28 on it.

well little update but no pics, me n me mate were going to clacton and turning into a junction she jus cut out, WTF??? stranded on a junction we quickly push it out the way and investigate, fuel pump isnt running. So first check the relay as i carry a spare but no joy jus clicked, siezed solid, that was a group a pump too. So quick fone call to me mate and he was on his way to me with my spare pump in me garage, nice changing a fuel pump with half a tank waiting to pour out on my back on the side of the road, werent too bad, only took 20mins but all back together fuel pump isnt running still, relays dead, so quick get you home bodge and she was runing again, went out the today to have a proper look and discovered the relay melted a wire which killed the pump and the relay, so wire cut and replaced plug my other relay in and the bloody electro magnets gone in that one so that dont work either, great these are £20 second hand for these relays too lol. Still on the hunt for one but she is still running as i left the quick fix on it.
